Students from the COE 431 Industrial Computer Systems along with Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Ali and Mr. Ahmad Al Nabulsi had a field trip visit on Tuesday July 11, 2017. The field trip covered real-time applications of industrial computer systems and allowed the students to meet engineers in the field. The trip started with a visit to ASM Process Automation in which students got to examine real-life applications of Profibus Systems as well as learn more about troubleshooting industrial computer systems. In the second part of the trip students visited the Dubai Mall Fountain. In this part of the trip, students had the rare opportunity of visiting the automation room of the fountain in which they have examined the important role of industrial computer systems in the coordination of the fountain show.
In October 2016, students visited Emerson FZE located in Jebel Ali free zone as a part of COE 481 Real Time Industrial Networks course taught by Dr.Tarik Ozkul. Twinty students participated in the field trip. Emerson is one of the biggest companies in the field of smart sensor and actuators. They not only design systems, but also manufacture smart valves and sensors in their Jebel Ali factory. As part of the field trip, COE 481 students were given a training on designing wireless sensor systems using Rosemount wireless HART equipment. Students enjoyed the hospitality and the education they have received at Emerson HQ.
